Martin “Marty” K. LaPointe
Marty is an eternal optimist, long-suffering White Sox fan, and distinguished employment attorney—in that order. Marty has successfully defended employers in litigation for decades—but who’s counting—and loved every minute of it.
Marty previously established a prestigious boutique employment law firm, LaPointe Law P.C., which was retained on several nationwide Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) programs to defend clients against lawsuits and EEOC and state agency charges, and to provide on-demand risk management services via an attorney-staffed 800 Helpline. Marty’s focus on compliance efforts, managerial support, and risk management strategies earned him steadfast loyalty from large scale corporations and small businesses alike.
Marty has also represented private and public organizations in a variety of commercial litigation matters, including constitutional challenges, personal injury defense and breach of contract cases. A formidable trial attorney, Marty has consistently achieved outstanding results for his clients in employment litigation and has argued numerous appeals. For many years, Marty represented a Fortune 100 corporation throughout the United States, contributing to the efficient resolution of an array of employment actions.
After building a phenomenal practice from the ground up, Marty decided that founding one successful law firm was not enough, and he needed a new challenge, so he set his eyes on California’s rapidly evolving employment landscape. In representing a sizable and growing number of clients in California, Marty recognized that obvious gaps existed in the employment defense marketplace: the larger firms were not responsive to their smaller clients, took entirely too long to provide services, and were unable to engage their clients’ leadership teams in risk management strategies, while boutique firms lacked the resources to offer the full suite of legal services that California businesses require. Marty’s leap of faith in starting something new to fill this need speaks volumes about his character, insight, and confidence—he is truly fearless and never backs down from a challenge.
Formerly a law clerk for the Honorable Charles R. Norgle, Sr. of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Marty analyzed employment issues and trends from a judge’s standpoint and drafted numerous opinions and publications. He was a member of the Editorial Board and a Contributor/Writer of the Journal of Employment Discrimination Law (CCH, Inc.) and published several articles in the Journal. He also served as a member of the Editorial Board of the Labor Law Journal (CCH, Inc.) and the Defense Research Institute Employment Law Committee.
Marty received his B.A. from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, summa cum laude, and his J.D. from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, Order of the Coif and with high honors, in 1987.
